Seasonal Alignment – Summer
I’ve recently realized that photography and writing are valuable tools for engaging with meaning, self reflection and cultivating presence. Like Joan Didion, I write to find out what I think. I photograph to challenge myself to see in new perspectives. And both my photography and writing practice help me feel more aligned with my inner self. Because of this realization I have a new vision for my creative work – to combine both in some meaningful way.
Continuing on the seasonal arc of myth work, the season of summer aligns to Inanna’s return to the world from the underworld. She returns but is not the same. She has integrated her experiences and reclaims her place in the world with newfound wisdom and empowerment.
At this stage in the seasonal arc of myth work, there is a call to align daily actions with the wisdom and insights gained on the journey so far. Also to celebrate abundance and engage with activities that bring you joy and reflect your personal growth. It is also a time to rest in the abundance. The work on the path can be psychologically taxing so its important now to rest and practice self care, resetting any self care routines that have been lost along the way.
The questions I’m taking with me into summer are:
- Which aspects of yourself feel more alive or whole after this myth work cycle?
- How can you embody what you have learned in small, daily actions?
- What boundaries are necessary to protect what you have gained on this journey so far?
Moving forward
Summer marks the liminal end of the myth work cycle before it begins again in the Fall.
As an end to this post I will leave you with these prompts to complete for yourself:
“This summer, I am allowing myself to fully embrace…”
“I am most abundant when…”
“The gifts of my journey that I am ready to share are…”
“I feel most aligned with myself when I…”
