Italy / Exploring the Endless Blue of Salento

I’ve been exploring Salento recently – the southernmost part of Italy, deep in the heel of the boot. Visiting friends, I learned how to make seafood risotto and pasticciotto and then one early morning we took a road trip to Castro to swim in the sea. There we found people of all ages and sizes stripping down into their swimsuits to partake in this morning ritual. No one seems to be self-conscious one bit and that is what I love about the experience. The ease of it all. Afterwards, we climbed the hills. The views were magnificent as you can see from the photos. Looking closely you can see the swimmers down below floating on their backs, drifting away from it all.
